A beautiful chart, with some fascinating tree trivia that I’d never heard before. Pando, the oldest ‘tree’ is actually a colony of stems, which have been scientifically proven to all be part of the same ancient organism. The vast estimated range of its age is evidence of the uncertainty of its lineage, but regardless, if you accept the fact that the entire colony, connected by a single root system, is a ‘tree’, the idea that it has been living through time seems almost magical.
The chart’s design is interesting, whimsical and plant-like. The combination of location and age is well done and provides some useful context. Though not purely mathematical, it is beautiful and it inspired me to dig deeper. Props to chart creator Michæl Paukner for this great work.
